after starting my day with a breakfast of french pastries, i headed out in search of some chocolate making supplies and other interesting pastry-type stuff.
i checked out g. detout for some obscure ingredients, but didn’t see anything that i couldn’t find from suppliers back in vancouver.
next it was off to mora, home to plenty of molds and tools for everyone’s pastry kitchen.
i could have gone crazy in here, but ended up getting some chocolate molds, dipping forks, and a couple of other random little things.
next up, e. dehellerin…they have a ton of stuff, and lots of copper, but nothing i really needed.
back to the apartment to drop of my goodies, then it was back out for some sightseeing.
i wandered south along blvd richard lenoir, past the place de la bastille and back west along blvd henry iv towards the seine.
across the pont de sully and i made my way along the edge of the seine past notre dame.
i was forced back up to street level by some sort of foreign language film (complete with racing police zodiacs) being filmed outside a little cafe along the river.
i navigated my way over to blvd st germain and walked east towards the pont du carousel and the entrance to the louvre.
i have to say, i wasn’t really impressed with the blvd st germain.
it was crawling with tourists, and really wasn’t my scene.
i didn’t feel like getting lost though, so decided not to venture onto the side streets.
the street sort of reminded me of las ramblas in barcelona.
across the bridge i made my way onto the grounds for the louvre.
the sun was trying to make an appearance, and i stood for a few minutes in awe of the ornate details all over the buildings.
i took a bunch of pictures, walked past the big glass pyramid entrance to the louvre, and made my way back out to the rue de rivoli.
i was starting to get hungry, so i started to head back to the apartment.
i made a couple of detours along the way to see les halles (another trashy, touristy area), and past the centre georges pompidou (famous for it’s exo-skeleton of mechanical systems).
all in all, it was a nice, relaxing day in paris.
i’m starting to get tired of travelling, so decided to save some more sightseeing for saturday and sunday.
besides, i have to have something to keep myself occupied both days!
tomorrow i think i’ll do the eiffel tower, the hotel des invalides, and the jardin des tuileries.
then sunday the champs elysees, and monday it’s off to brussels.
i’m starting to get excited about coming back home and seeing some familiar faces.
no longer having anything to really keep me occupied during the day, all this travelling is starting to wear me out mentally.
it’s not long now though…
but first, some pictures from my little stroll around paris today.
